The Gonsenheim Gate was preserved from the times of the Rheingau Wall in the 19th century, while the baroque Gautor was originally built in the Middle Ages. The Johannisnacht stands as a multi-day celebration in the sign of Johannes Gutenberg, the inventor of the book printing. Every second year at night, the gates to the most popular museums are open as part of the Mainz Museum Night. Unusual experiences with a supporting program of music and culinary delights await you, for example, in the Landes-, Gutenberg- and Naturhistorisches Museum. In addition to numerous open-air festivals, summer highlights include the Mainz summer lights along the banks of the Rhine.
