To ensure that all your furniture, clothes, books and documents arrive safely and in one piece in your new home, we have compiled some tips for optimal packing below. If you also need moving boxes, packing blankets or other accessories, you can find them in our moving supplies.
At best, before packing the boxes, think about where you want to place which things in the new apartment and make a plan. This will make unpacking easier and will allow you to pack the moving boxes in your old apartment so that they can be sorted according to the rooms in the new apartment. Use colored labels for this and label your boxes with the respective contents. This way, the movers will also know quickly in which room the box should be placed. Also, be careful not to overload the boxes, as they can tear if they are too heavy and things can quickly get broken.
To ensure that fragile items also arrive in one piece, it is advisable to wrap them in packing paper or bubble wrap. Smaller items can then be placed in a cardboard box.
Larger items should first be wrapped in bubble wrap and then wrapped in a packing blanket, as these usually do not fit into a moving box and must therefore be placed directly in the moving truck. If you no longer have the original packaging for your TV or other equipment, it is advisable to secure it in the same way for transport.
Be careful not to pack your books and documents in boxes that are too heavy. Distribute them rather on several boxes and fill up afterwards with light things. This way you can transport everything well and minimize the risk of the box tearing.
Disassemble, sort and label all furniture as best as you can. Screws and small accessories should be safely stored in a zip bag, labeled and attached to each piece of furniture. This will ensure that you can reassemble everything in the new apartment without complications.
There are also some things to consider when transporting furniture and household appliances:
Wrap furniture and household appliances in packing blankets to prevent scratches and dents
Empty cabinets with drawers and tape them shut or wrap them with stretch film
Use furniture covers to protect living room furniture from dirt and rain
Use a hand truck or furniture dolly to transport larger furniture and appliances
Use a sling to transport furniture and household appliances through stairwells
How to properly load and transport your cargo, boxes and furniture after packing, we have summarized here.
Clothes and other textiles can be transported well in a moving box. If you want to protect them additionally from dust and dirt, it is recommended to use a garment bag. For delicate clothes you can use a clothes box. With this you can hang up your clothes like in a wardrobe and thus transport them safely and crease-free.
To avoid standing alone in front of your packed boxes and furniture on moving day, you should think about who can support you and how they can be persuaded to help. For example, you can invite the helpers to a meal together afterwards or offer your help with your friend's next move in return.
To ensure that not only your moving boxes arrive safely at your new home, but also your mail, you should take care of a forwarding request in good time. In this case, the mail recipient instructs a postal company to forward his mail to a new address in the event of a move and thus a change of address. You can easily submit such a forwarding request here.
A move is also always a chance to part with things you no longer need. You can organize this via different websites where you have the option of renting a container or requesting professional decluttering.
